A small group of villagers, an ad hoc committee, met in early 1979 to discuss forming a club to promote all things horticultural. They agreed on the formation of Adderbury Gardening Club and its Charter. One of the few surviving members of that group is Arthur Spencer who, on his retirement from being our Chairman in 1988, was made Life President. The Club has only ever had one President but has had several changes in its Officers and Committees. Most clubs and societies are only as strong as the ability of its officers and members to raise funds to help offset the cost of running the organisation. Since 1979 the costs have far outpaced inflation - compare
As can be seen subscriptions even in 1979 could not cover the cost of the speakers so fund raising has always been an important function of the Committee, the more monies raised the better the quality of the speakers - compare
The current Committee have been very successful in their fund raising activities.
