The Arts in Adderbury

Embracing the arts in Adderbury

In Adderbury we are very lucky to have such a wide range of organisations that cater for all tastes in music and the arts.

They include the much acclaimed Adderbury Ensemble who present the ‘Music in Adderbury’ concert series. These concerts are regularly performed at St Mary’s church, on Sunday evenings throughout the year, and feature a number of Britain’s finest musicians under the banner of the Adderbury Ensemble.

For those that enjoy treading the boards you can see the Adderbury Theatre Workshop, who were born out of the Adderbury Silver Jubilee celebrations in 1977. They manage to produce a Pantomime, a Cabaret and a play during the year and will always welcome new faces or supporters at their various productions.

Anyone who enjoys the many English traditions we have Adderbury hosts two teams of Morris Men, the Adderbury Morris Men and the Adderbury Village Morris Men, both teams having recently celebrated 30 years of dancing Adderbury’s very own dances and world renowned tradition.  The highlight of their year is the much loved ‘Adderbury Day of Dance’ where at the end of April the two teams take to the streets and spend the day travelling from one end of the village to the other dancing and singing and bringing the majority of the village, past and present, together for a great days entertainment.

Carrying on with the English traditions those that enjoy live music with a difference, follow the sounds floating up the high street on a Monday night and you will find, in the back room of the Bell Inn, the folk club.  This group meet weekly and will welcome any passing musician or listener for a relaxed session that produces, on the whole, a big noise and lots of beer.

If the mixture of music is too much there will always be a spare cassock awaiting you in the church as the church choir will never say no to new members and they meet on a Friday night for practise and Sunday mornings for the real thing. Don't foget to listen out for the beautiful sounds of the church bellringers in action for practise Thursday evenings or announcing each service.

And who said there’s nothing to do these days?
