Bowls Club News
Adderbury Bowls and Social Club members are looking forward to the next social event following the Comedy Night held on Saturday 9thJune, which was a great success and raised £242 towards club refurbishment and green maintenance.
The entertainer Richard Parker from Northampton delivered an evening of great comedy with music and song suitable for all. He very soon had everyone bursting their sides with laughter that's when they weren't all singing along.
Tickets for the evening were modestly priced at £10.00, each which included a superb buffet laid on by the Ladies of the Social Committee and an excellent raffle.
Adderbury Bowlers are enjoying a great season of matches home and away to local clubs and as far away as Bexley and Teddington. Friendly roll ups take place every Friday evening (starting around 6pm) and are open to anybody who wishes to have a go. Participants are asked to wear suitable flat trainers or similar footwear.
The club bar is open every evening Monday to Saturday and Sunday lunchtimes to bowling and social members. New members always receive a warm welcome.
Forthcoming social events this year will include music and barbecue, another comedy evening and an evening of sponsored pig racing, don't worry its not what you think and it promises to be a great fun event to look out for.
ADDERBURY REACHES LAST FOUR IN COUNTY MATCH - OBA CENTENARY CUP ON SUNDAY 17 June 2007
Bowlers from Adderbury reached the semi-finals of the prestigious OBA Centenary Cup, which was played in the superb setting of the Oxford City and County Bowls Club in Summertown.
Clubs reaching the last four were Adderbury, Cotswold, Carterton and Witney; Adderbury being represented by Phil Gladden, Alan Wase, Cliff Hall and Trevor Roberts who were drawn against Cotswold in the semi-final
It was a fine performance from the Adderbury four who led throughout the game until they dropped two consecutive fours to see Cotswold level the score at 19 all going into the last end setting the scene for a nail-biting conclusion
At the very end all the woods were surrounding the jack resulting in a measure so close that it had to be judged with calipers with Adderbury loosing by 2mm to give Costwold the winning shot of the Semi-Final
The competition has been a great experience and achievement for the Club with Adderbury progressing further than ever before in a County Fours Competition
The resulting final was contested between Carterton and Cotswold with Carterton going on to win 18 - 14
