The Church was founded around 200 years ago. The present chapel building was opened in 1893 and it replaced an earlier chapel further along Chapel Lane. We belong to the Methodist Church nationwide and are bound by its constitution and practice. Within that structure, we belong locally to the group of churches known as the Banbury Methodist Circuit which includes similar churches in other Banburyshire villages as well as the Methodist Churches in Banbury itself.
What we are and what we do The Methodist Church is more than a building. We are a group of Christian people from Adderbury and some of the surrounding villages who meet for worship. Our worship is every Sunday morning at 10.30 and we also hold occasional “fellowship” meetings in members’ homes when we talk about the Christian life, our beliefs and moral and ethical issues. If you are a visitor to the village, or just want explore the spiritual aspects of life a little further, we shall be very pleased to welcome you to Sunday worship.
Our mission statement Adderbury Methodist Church exists to be an expression of the joy and hope of the Christian Gospel:
through regular worship which is meaningful to its congregation and acceptable to God
through fellowship and friendship which encourages its members and congregation to grow in the Christian faith
through service and witness to the local community, which includes making its premises available to community groups
through being a visible and active Christian presence in the village of Adderbury.
The church aims to maintain and develop its premises in order to support these objectives.
Updating the building We have ambitious plans for the next year which include:
Improving the heating in the hall at the back of the chapel building.
A major upgrade of the kitchen and toilet facilities.
Refurbishing the décor, flooring and furnishings in the hall.
Replacing window panes where needed.
Refurbishing the organ which is used to accompany the hymns and provide music at our Sunday worship.
Hiring the hall We are keen to see our building used for activities which support the local community, and anyone interested should contact the Senior Steward, Dudley Folland, on 01295 810889, about letting arrangements.
