St Mary's Church

What we are and what we do
St Mary's Church, Adderbury has stood as the centre of worship and of service to the village for nearly 800 years. It is our spiritual base and we are privileged to be part of the church family here. St Mary's has a very welcoming congregation and visitors are encouraged to take part in the services. Sunday Club is run for children aged five and over each week. The church is fitted with a loop system for those hard of hearing.

Updating the building
Periodically our church building needs major work to ensure it remains in good repair for generations to come. Our architect highlighted deterioration to areas of high level stonework, gutters and drainage systems at his last inspection. These repairs would cost around £250,000. Two years ago the Parochial Church Council (PCC) decided to instigate fundraising for a renovation programme. Thus, the St Mary's Adderbury Rescue Team (SMART) was born. A grant of £113,000 from English Heritage gave the initial impetus for the SMART committee to raise the balance. In 2005, through individual subscription, other grant applications and a fantastic series of village fundraising events, the overall target was met. As well as achieving the objective of putting our church back into good repair, SMART demonstrated a terrific amount of goodwill in our village community towards a major project of this nature.

A Walk of Faith
Why not find out more about St Mary's and take a pilgrimage around the church? We have recently published A Walk of Faith which gives visitors the chance to get to know more about this stunningly beautiful monument to the Christian faith. The person Jesus, to whom this church bears witness, did not go about constructing buildings but called people together to follow his example of Love. The Walk of Faith leaflet has been written by these people, people who worship here and seek to live out in our village and the wider world, his message of Good News. Copies of the leaflet are available in the church.
