Aims The aims of Adderbury History Association are: -
To find out what historical material there is relating to Adderbury Parish, where it is located, to ascertain its accessibility, to record and transcribe it (where necessary), and to make it available to those who have a bona-fide need of the materials
To make it known by publishing or exhibiting the material collected, where relevant, to the village and organisations outside the village
To preserve items of historical interest , where possible, for future generations
To provide a forum for all those who are interested in meeting to discuss and learn about Adderbury’s history.
Formation of the Association The Association was started following an informal meeting in the Bell Inn on the evening of Thursday 2nd September 1982. Those present formed themselves into a formal group with Tim Woodall, Nick Allen, and Jill Wensley as Chairman, Secretary, and Treasurer respectively.
It was agreed to stage an exhibition in the Summer of 1983 and to produce an Adderbury Walkabout booklet. The booklet was very successful and is at present out of print. It is hoped to revise and reprint it in 2009. The exhibition was a great success and was the first of a number of exhibitions that have taken place. The 25th Anniversary was celebrated with an exhibition on Adderbury Trades etc.
The Aim of the Society is not only to have guest speakers but, wherever possible, to encourage its members to follow their own research on different historical aspects of the village.
Association Meetings Association meetings are usually held on the third Monday in the month starting at 7:30pm at the Methodist Chapel meeting room in Chapel Lane, Adderbury. During the Autumn, Winter and Spring we have a variety of speakers and in the Summer we invite another History Society to visit Adderbury. We also have an evening visit to a place of interest.
