CALLING ALL ADDERBURY RESIDENTS -
ADDERBURY INSTITUTE URGENTLY NEEDS YOUR HELP!
Adderbury Institute was opened in 1898 and has acted as a social centre for the village for more than 100 years. Today it remains the home of the Adderbury Theatre Workshop, Adderbury Scouts and the Over Sixties and is a village asset available for use by all residents. However, time has not been kind to the building and it is now in need of very urgent maintenance repairs. This critical work includes:
1. Replacement of the kitchen flat-roof
2. Installation of a damp proof course
3. Re-pointing of the west wall
4. Upgrading of the guttering and drain pipes
5. Removal of the south chimney and re-pointing of the west chimney
6. Internal plastering/decorating and repairs to the internal dado panels
7. Replacement of the heating system to prevent future degradation.
Although the future of the Institute is under discussion the Institute Management Committee is tasked with the current maintenance and running of the Institute on behalf of the Trustees. As such the Committee is apolitical and has no say or direct impact in future plans; its sole concerns are with ensuring that the building remains fit for use, and is managed effectively, until directed otherwise by the Trustees. Hence, the Committee's immediate requirement is the raising of sufficient funds to allow this critical maintenance work to be carried out.
THIS REQUIRES THE HELP OF ALL VILLAGE RESIDENTS!
The key maintenance noted above has been costed at around £25,000. Institute funding is inadequate to meet this bill, being of a level only just sufficient to meet basic and essential running costs. The Institute therefore calls upon all members of the village community to help raise the necessary funds. The generosity of the village in supporting local maintenance projects was admirably demonstrated last year with the SMART campaign for the village church - this year the INSTITUTE NEEDS YOUR HELP!
The Institute Committee therefore announces the launch of a major fund raising campaign to raise the money necessary to allow the essential repairs to be undertaken. Anyone wishing to directly assist the Committee in this endeavour would be most welcome and is invited to contact the Chairman, Rick Atkinson, on 01295 812972.
For those wishing to make a financial contribution towards our £25,000 target now our Treasurer, David White, would be delighted to receive cheques (payable to 'Adderbury Parish Institute') at Placketts, High Street, Adderbury, OX17 3LS. Alternatively you can donate simply and immediately using your credit or debit card via our website at www.adderburyinstitute.com
